Even the lightest of greenies are starting to bring their own bags to the supermarket, and saving millions of pounds of waste each year. But even with the best of intentions, many of us leave our bags at home, in the car....anywhere but in the store with us! With so many types of reusable bags out there, choosing the right system for you can be daunting. I'd like to share with you why RuMe reusable bags are my personal favorites!
- The Ease: Compact & simple to fold up into my purse. After I unload my market goods, groceries, or shopping exploits from the bag(s), I simply fold it up and return it to my purse. When I used plastic bags, I emptied them and stuck them in a designated spot for recycling. Now the spot is in my purse....and my cabinets are free of clutter!
- The Design: Specifically the square designed seams. These make the bags easy to stand up, which makes your bagger like you. Other reusable bags can be slippery and annoying for baggers who are used to a system....which has led to me being left to bag myself! Never happens with my RuMe Bags
- The Size: HUGE! You can take 3 and get an average size grocery cart into them. I'm not kidding...I've done it! They are also great at farmer's markets because they are water-proof and easily fit over your shoulder for easy carrying.
- The Style: Who wants to walk into the mall or Target with a $2 grocery-store branded bag? RuMe bags are so cute, they move beyond the grocery store, and replace ALL one-time use bags! Not to mention many of the styles are masculine...your man will thank you!
- The Options: If you don't need a bag as big, buy the Mini! Same style, durability and design...just mini! Great for packing lunch, going to the library, the gym, wherever!
There are really more reasons why this is my go to bag constantly, but I'll stop here! Actually, I'm not stopping, I'm giving away 3 of these bags to celebrate Earth Day! To enter, leave a comment about what one green thing you've resisted doing, and why. For an extra entry, subscribe the the MamaGoesGreen newsletter. And lastly, Twitter about it, and let me know! Do it before April 23rd, I'm choosing the winners on the 24th. Have fun!

What green thing hae I resisted doing? Try as I might, I just can't manage to conserve water. I try to take shorter showers, but I can't manage to clock in under 15 minutes, and I like the water hot.
This feels like a confessional!
Ooh - first comment! I've resisted taking shorter showers. It's my one time when I've got a break from childcare and I really enjoy it.
Hmm, one thing I've resisted. Well it was handwashing dishes but then my dishwasher broke and my budget demanded I handwash. :/ Now I'd say it's baking my own bread. I mess it up every time so I've quit for awhile. It's calling to me again - I may try that Artisan 5 thing I keep hearing about.

Unfortunatley, I have resisted composting, because I can't figure out where to put it or, really, what to do with it. It seems more complicated than (I'm pretty sure) it is.
Maybe I'll look into it further in honor of Earth Day. :)

I just moved so things are different, but the last community that I lived in didn't really want people to recycle. You could only take your recyclables on Wednesdays from 7:30am to 3pm--no curbside pickups. I'm a teacher and their recycling schedule conflicted with my work schedule.
Now, recycling is close, open all the time and easy to do, so I'm going to be better! (Or make hubby be better!) :D
I signed up for the newsletter and Tweeted too.
I really try to buy organic foods whenever the choice is there and not just because they are better for my family but it can save the lives of the people working in the fields as well. But I CANNOT, WILL NOT spend $5 for one organic green pepper. So that's it, that's what I am resisting--a $5 green pepper.
Our local fruit & veg market is a mere 10 minute walk away, yet I often jump in the car to do my shopping...maybe when the warmer weather arrives I'll be more inclined to walk there with the little ones.
I have resisted by throwing all of my familys laundrey in the dryer. I tried to hang dry most of my family of 5's clothes out on the line, but I hate how "crunchy" my jeans come out, so into the dryer they go...
I've resisted saving water. I'm pretty good about conserving hot water because that uses a lot of energy too, and I'm very careful about what sorts of things I add to the water. But, when I'm at home, I can't really see what difference it makes whether the water I use runs through the creek in my yard for a few hundred metres and drains into the swamp or runs through a pipe to the house, down the drain into the septic system, and drains into the same swamp. It's the same water (we don't treat it), we don't use enough of it that the creek level below the intake for the well is noticeably lower than above it, and the pump doesn't use all that much electricity.
The real problem with this, as far as I can tell, is not what I do at home. It's that it takes me a while being away before I start remembering to be more careful in places where there's less water or where it goes through extensive treatment.
ahhh gonna get sneaky huh, well I will get into the confessional here. My BIG bad green thing I have resisted is... stopping smoking. It's nasty, for me, the environment, those around me just all around gross. So addictive and my hardest green challenge!
Oh boy, I guess if I have to come up with something, it would be that I should make the effort to compost. I use the excuse that we rent, but know that isn't a great reason! Having to "confess" may give me a push!
I gave the giveaway a tweet(@frugalgirl)!! I love the designs of these bags! So cool!
Buying organic clothing because of the cost. I do buy used clothing as much as possible to lower our impact.
I'm a subscriber if that is what you mean by newsletter. I couldn't find where to sign up for your newsletter.

I can't bring myself to buy compact fluorescent bulbs because I don't like the light they produce :(
I've resisted switching to reusable water bottles instead of buying bottled water. I guess it is the time and connivence factor.

I am resting getting rid of toilet paper and using re-usable and washable rags... i know a lot of people do this but... i don't know... haven't felt inclined to jump on this bandwagon....
I have not conserved water very well. I hand wash dishes but I do not fill the sink with water, I keep it running! And even worse, when my 5 month old is fussy I sometimes put him in the bathroom with the shower running. I am awful. But I do use reusable totes!
I have resisted unplugging bigger energy users - computer, etc. Basically just because I am too lazy.
Ironically, I have resisted the reusable bag thing. I have some and I love them, but taking them to the store and using them just seems beyond my reach.
What a great subject!
Okay: my confession of an eco-mom: I burn paper. I live in rural VA and have a wood stove, so over the winter, much of our paper is used as "kindling". So I guess my answer should be "have more patience" when starting fires. ;) Otherwise, I often recycle it. But nothin' like adding more CO2 into the air for a perfectly recyclable material! augh.
I'm subscribed on my yahoo reader.
I just tweeted the post. I'm thecatenelson. (Follow me, y'all)
Let's see...Just one? One green thing I resisted doing was composting. I didn't do it because I thought it might be smelly and gross and, well actually, I just didn't know how simple it was. But just this weekend I picked up a bin and we started doing it. Just like that. Coffee grounds, banana peels, orange peels, wrinkly lettuce leaves, you name it---none it if gets thrown away anymore. It's fabulous!
This year has been an extremely green year for our family. It happens slowly, but it's nice to be making so many wonderful changes!

I want to put solar on my house but still think it's just to expensive....
I guess I have resisted the BIG and more expensive things.... like I would love to find an economical way to save my grey water in my frozen Wi. winters & reuse it for watering outside & maybe doing another load of laundry as most of that water is not terribly icky... esp the rinse water... and I would love to find out if a small wind drum would work on my house... expenses I can't afford, but if a stimulus plan comes along I will be researching!
I've kind of resisted using cloth diapers, but I've switched to g diapers now which is one step in the right direction. =)
I've resisted cutting back on plastic bottles. For some reason I never remember to grab my reusable water bottle. Just can't make it a habit!
